Not just boats – in addition to the fleet, Southsea Rowing Club has a range of indoor exercise equipment for rowers to train on during the winter months, and to supplement outdoor sessions.
We house our boats on the lower level of the club. These include coastal fours, quads, doubles, pairs, and singles. We have a selection of macon and hatchet blades, and a coaches’ launch.
On the top level, we have 10 Concept2 rowing machines, two bench presses, free weights, a leg press, exercise balls, and step-up blocks. Our large open floor plan permits us to spread out the mats to do weight and core circuits. Even better, you can exercise with a view, as the large windows face the ocean, and we often see cruise ships (the Queen Mary!) passing by. After a tough workout, walk out onto the balcony to see the sun set behind the Spinnaker tower.
Our club has separate changing rooms with a shower, toilet, and benches for each.
Also, we have the club bar, stocked with a range of soft drinks, lagers, and ales, to accommodate the most discriminating tastes. Members can enjoy drinks and food at one of our wooden pub tables. When the equipment is removed from the upstairs, it becomes a spacious area to host an event, with the beautiful backdrop of the sea. Many of our club socials are held right at the club, see the Socials page for more details.
